And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. (69) When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? (70) They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. (71) He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them (72) Or do they profit you or cause you harm? (73) They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." (74) He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, (75) “You and your forefathers preceding you.” (76) are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. (77) Who created me and showed me the way, (78) Who gives me food and drink, (79) And heals me when I am sick, (80) He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. (81) Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." (82) "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, (83) "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); (84) And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. (85) "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray (86) and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: (87) “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” (88) [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" (89) And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. (90) And Hell is brought near to the perverse' (91) who will be asked, "What did you worship (92) besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" (93) And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse (94) Together with the hordes of Iblis. (95) And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: (96) "By Allah, we were surely in clear error (97) “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” (98) "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. (99) Now we have no intercessors (100) And not a devoted friend. (101) Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" (102) There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: (103) But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! (104)
