The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. (34) who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' (35) They said, "Let him and his brother wait a while, and send heralds into the cities, (36) who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." (37) So the sorcerers were gathered on the appointed day (38) And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? (39) in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' (40) Now when the sorcerers came, they said unto Pharaoh: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail. (41) He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]." (42) Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw." (43) So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." (44) Then Moses cast down his staff and suddenly it swallowed up what they had falsely invented. (45) So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. (46) They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: (47) “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” (48) Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” (49) They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord, (50) Verily we long that our Lord shall forgive us our faults because we have been the first of the believers (51)
