Light (Al-Noor)
64 verses, revealed in Medina after Exodus (Al-Hashr) before Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A Surah [is this] which We have bestowed from on high, and which We have laid down in plain terms; and in it have We bestowed from on high messages which are clear [in themselves,] so that you might keep [them] in mind. (1) The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. (2) The fornicator shall marry none but a fornicatress or an idolatress; and the fornicatress none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; that is forbidden to the believers. (3) As for those persons who charge chaste women with false accusations but do not produce four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes and never accept their evidence afterwards, for they themselves are transgressors, (4) Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (5) As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth; (6) And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie. (7) And the punishment shall be averted from the woman if she bears the testimony four times by the name of Allah, that the man is a liar. (8) Her fifth oath being that the curse of God be on her if her husband should be speaking the truth. (9) And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy-- and that Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Wise! (10)
