Light (Al-Noor)
64 verses, revealed in Medina after Exodus (Al-Hashr) before Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down, and which We have ordained; and therein We have sent down revelations manifest, that haply ye may be admonished. (1) (As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement. (2) The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers. (3) And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them, (giving) eighty stripes, and do not admit any evidence from them ever; and these it is that are the transgressors, (4) Except those who repent after this and reform themselves; so indeed Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. (5) One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, (6) and the fifth time, that the curse of Allah shall be upon him, if he should be of the liars. (7) But the punishment will be averted from her if she swears four times that he is of the liars, (8) And the fifth that Allah's wrath be upon her if he is of the truthtellers. (9) If Allah had not shown you His grace and mercy and if Allah had not been most Forgiving and All-Wise, (you would have been in a great fix because of accusing your wives). (10)
