Light (Al-Noor)
64 verses, revealed in Medina after Exodus (Al-Hashr) before Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (This is) a chapter which We have revealed and made obligatory and in which We have revealed clear communications that you may be mindful. (1) The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment. (2) The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers. (3) And those who accuse chaste women and do not bring four witnesses to testify punish them with eighty lashes and do not ever accept their testimony; and it is they who are the wicked. (4) Except those who repent after this and reform; and God is surely forgiving and kind. (5) And as for those who accuse their own wives [of adultery,] but have no witnesses except themselves, let each of these [accusers] call God four times to witness that he is indeed telling the truth, (6) and the fifth time, that God's curse be upon him if he is telling a lie. (7) (As for the woman), it shall avert the punishment from her if she swears four times by Allah that the man is false (in his charge) (8) And the fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be on her if he is one of the truthful. (9) And were it not for Allah’s munificence and His mercy upon you and that Allah is the Acceptor of Repentance, the Wise He would then have unveiled you. (10)
