The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. (33) "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. (34) "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? (35) ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! (36) There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. (37) This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." (38) (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." (39) [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." (40) So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! (41) Then after them, We created other generations. (42) no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. (43) Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! (44) Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority (45) to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. (46) They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" (47) So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. (48) And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture, that they may be guided. (49) And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. (50)
