Pilgrimage (Al-Hajj)
78 verses, revealed in Medina after Light (Al-Noor) before The Hypocrites (Al-Munaafeqoon)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ O people, fear your Lord; indeed the earthquake of the Last Day is a tremendous thing. (1) The day you see it every suckling female will forget her suckling, and every pregnant female will discharge her burden. You will see men drunk, yet it will not be intoxication. The torment of God will be severe. (2) Among people there are some who wrangle about Allah without knowledge and follow every rebellious devil, (3) Against him it is written down that whoever takes him for a friend, he shall lead him astray and conduct him to the chastisement of the burning fire. (4) O people! If you are in doubt about the Resurrection, remember that We first created you from dust, then from a sperm drop, then from clotted blood, then a lump of flesh, both shaped and unshaped, so that We might manifest to you [Our power]. We cause what We will to stay in the womb for an appointed time, then We bring you forth as infants and then We cause you to grow and reach full growth. Then, some of you will pass away early in life, while some of you will reach extreme old age in which they will know nothing of what they once knew. You see the earth, dead and barren, but no sooner do We send down rain upon it than it begins to stir and swell, and produce every kind of luxuriant vegetation: (5) That is so for God is the undeniable Reality. It is He who brings the dead to life, for He has power over everything. (6) And the Hour is sure to come there is no doubt. And Allah will raise up those in the graves. (7) And of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening book [from Him], (8) scornfully turning aside [from the truth] so as to lead [others] astray from the path of God. Disgrace [of the spirit] is in store for him in this world; and on the Day of Resurrection We shall make him taste suffering through fire; (9) That is on account of what you had done in the past; yet God is not unjust to His creatures. (10)
