1/2 Hizb 33
Juz 17
۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. (51) When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? (52) They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. (53) He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." (54) They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" (55) He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. (56) And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. (57) He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. (58) They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." (59) They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." (60) They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." (61) They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" (62) "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." (63) And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." (64) But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" (65) He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? (66) Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? (67) They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" (68) We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" (69) Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! (70) And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. (71) We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. (72) And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). (73) And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. (74) And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. (75)
