۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. (51) when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' (52) They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. (53) He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. (54) They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" (55) He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" (56) And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. (57) So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. (58) They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" (59) They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. (60) They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” (61) They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? (62) He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. (63) Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," (64) Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. (65) Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? (66) Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? (67) They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." (68) We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. (69) And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. (70) And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. (71) And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, (72) And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). (73) To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. (74) We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. (75)
