How many a community that dealt unjustly have We shattered, and raised up after them another folk! (11) Then, when they perceived Our chastisement they took to their heels and fled. (12) Flee not, and return unto that wherein ye luxuriated and your habitations, haply ye will be questioned. (13) They said: "Ah! woe to us! We were indeed wrong-doers!" (14) And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is mown, as ashes silent and quenched. (15) We have not created the heavens and the earth, and all that lies between them, out of fun. (16) Had We intended to take a pastime (i.e. a wife or a son, etc.), We could surely have taken it from Us, if We were going to do (that). (17) Nay! We cast the truth against the falsehood, so that it breaks its head, and lo! it vanishes; and woe to you for what you describe; (18) To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire. (19) they extol His limitless glory by night and by day, never flagging [therein]. (20) Or have they taken (for worship) gods from the earth who can raise (the dead)? (21) Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then verily both would have been ruined. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He) above what they attribute to Him! (22) None shall question Him about His works, but they shall be questioned. (23) Have they taken gods other than Him? Say, (O Muhammad): "Bring forth your proof! Here is the Book with admonition for those of my time and there are also scriptures with admonition for people before me." But most people do not know the Truth, and have, therefore, turned away from it. (24) And We sent never a Messenger before thee except that We revealed to him, saying, 'There is no god but I; so serve Me.' (25) And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants. (26) they speak not until He has spoken unto them, and [whenever they act,] they act at His behest. (27) He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive. (28) ۞ The recompense of those of them who say that they are the Lord instead of God will be hell; thus, do We recompense the unjust ones. (29)
