The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
112 verses, revealed in Mecca after Abraham (Ibrahim) before The Believers (Al-Mu' minoon)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ NEAR HAS COME the reckoning for men, but they turn away in remissness. (1) No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play (2) Their hearts are involved in play; and the unjust secretly conferred, “What is he, except another a human like you?! So do you follow magic although you have perceived?” (3) He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." (4) "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" (5) There is not a township before them which did not believe which We have not destroyed; so will they believe? (6) For [even] before thy time, [O Muhammad,] We never sent [as Our apostles] any but [mortal] men, whom We inspired - hence, [tell the deniers of the truth,] "If you do not know this, ask the followers of earlier revelation" (7) We did not make their bodies immune to hunger, nor were they immortal. (8) Then We made Our promise good to them and delivered whomsoever We pleased, and destroyed the transgressors. (9) Now, We have sent down to you a Book in which is your Remembrance. Will you not understand? (10)
