The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
112 verses, revealed in Mecca after Abraham (Ibrahim) before The Believers (Al-Mu' minoon)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. (1) Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it, but do not take it seriously; (2) their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" (3) He said: My Lord knows what is spoken in the heaven and the earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. (4) Yet they say: "These are only confused dreams," or rather: "He has invented them;" or: "He is only a poet. Let him therefore bring a miracle to us as the earlier (apostles) were sent with." (5) Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe? (6) And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know. (7) And We did not create them without bodies so they would not eat food nor that they abide on earth forever. (8) In the end We fulfilled to them Our Promise, and We saved them and those whom We pleased, but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds. (9) Certainly We have revealed to you a Book in which is your good remembrance; what! do you not then understand? (10)
