The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
112 verses, revealed in Mecca after Abraham (Ibrahim) before The Believers (Al-Mu' minoon)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. (1) Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it, but do not take it seriously; (2) and their hearts are preoccupied with trivial matters. The unjust ones whisper to each other and say, "Is he (Muhammad) more than a mere mortal like you? How can you follow that which you know is only a magic?" (3) He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." (4) Nay, but they say: 'A hotchpotch of nightmares! Nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet! Now therefore let him bring us a sign, even as the ancient ones were sent as Messengers.' (5) Not one of the towns (populations), of those which We destroyed, believed before them (though We sent them signs), will they then believe? (6) And We sent not before thee but men unto whom We revealed; so ask the people of the admonition if ye know not. (7) And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals, (8) Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors. (9) We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand? (10)
