Juz 17
The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
112 verses, revealed in Mecca after Abraham (Ibrahim) before The Believers (Al-Mu' minoon)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The people's day of reckoning is drawing closer, yet they are heedlessly neglectful. (1) There comes not to them a new reminder from their Lord but they hear it while they sport, (2) Their hearts are involved in play; and the unjust secretly conferred, “What is he, except another a human like you?! So do you follow magic although you have perceived?” (3) Say: "My Sustainer knows whatever is spoken in heaven and on earth; and He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing." (4) Nay, but they say: 'A hotchpotch of nightmares! Nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet! Now therefore let him bring us a sign, even as the ancient ones were sent as Messengers.' (5) The people of the town whom We had destroyed also had no faith. Will these people then believe in God? (6) The messengers that We had sent before you were only men to whom We had given revelation. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know. (7) We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they to live forever. (8) Then We made good unto them the promise; so We delivered them and those whom We willed, and We destroyed the extravagant. (9) We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand? (10)
