And when We said to the angels: 'Prostrate yourselves before Adam' they all prostrated themselves except iblis, who refused. (116) Then We said: Adam! verily this is an enemy unto thee and thine spouse; so let him not drive forth you twain from the Garden, lest thou be destressed. (117) Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein nor naked. (118) you shall not thirst, nor feel the sun's heat." (119) But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? (120) Then they both ate of the tree, and so their private parts appeared to them, and they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray. (121) Then his Lord chose him, and inclined towards him with His mercy, and guided him. (122) He said, “Both of you go down from heaven, one of you is an enemy to the other; then if the guidance from Me comes to you then whoever follows My guidance, will not go astray nor be ill-fated.” (123) And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind." (124) He will ask: "O Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see?" (125) He will say: So (it must be). Our revelations came unto thee but thou didst forget them. In like manner thou art forgotten this Day. (126) Thus do We reward him who is prodigal and believeth not the revelations of his Lord; and verily the doom of the Hereafter will be sterner and more lasting. (127) Is it not a warning to such men (to call to mind) how many generations before them We destroyed, in whose haunts they (now) move? Verily, in this are Signs for men endued with understanding.
