And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves to Adam." They prostrated (all) except Iblis (Satan), who refused. (116) So We said; "O Adam, he is truly your enemy and your wife's. Do not let him have you turned out of Paradise and come to grief. (117) "Here you shall not go hungry or be naked, (118) Nor that thou shalt thirst therein nor shall suffer from the sun. (119) But Satan whispered evil to him: he said, "O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?" (120) So the two of them ate of it, and their shameful parts revealed to them, and they took to stitching upon themselves leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, and so he erred. (121) Then his Lord chose him, and relented toward him, and guided him. (122) He said: get ye twain down therefrom together: some of you an enemy unto some others; then if there cometh unto you from Me guidance, whosoever followeth My guidance shall neither go astray nor be distressed. (123) but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his life shall be narrow and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind' (124) and he will ask, "Lord, why have You raised me up blind, while I possessed sight before?" (125) He will say: "Even so it is. Our Signs came to you and you ignored them. So shall you be ignored this Day." (126) In this way We recompense the prodigal who disbelieves the verses of his Lord. But the punishment of the Everlasting Life is more terrible and everlasting. (127) Does it not then direct them aright how many of the generations In whose dwelling-places they go about We destroyed before them? Most surely there are signs in this for those endowed with understanding. (128)
