۞ Thereof (the earth) We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you out once again. (55) And truly We showed him Our signs, all of them, but he rejected and refused. (56) He said: art thou come unto us that thou mayest drive us out of our land by thy magic, O Musa! (57) We shall confront you with a sorcery like your own. So appoint a day when both of us might meet face to face in an open space; an appointment which neither we nor you shall fail to keep." (58) Moses said, "Let the contest take place on the Day of Feast so that all the people can come together during the brightness of the day." (59) So Pharaoh withdrew, devised his stratagem and returned. (60) Moosa said to them, “Ruin is to you do not fabricate a lie against Allah, that He may destroy you by a punishment; and indeed one who fabricates lies has failed.” (61) Thereupon they wrangled among themselves about the matter and conferred in secret. (62) They said: These are most surely two magicians who wish to turn you out from your land by their magic and to take away your best traditions. (63) “Therefore strengthen your scheme, and come forth in rows; indeed whoever dominates this day has succeeded.” (64) They said, “O Moosa, either you throw first or shall we throw first?” (65) [Musa (Moses)] said: "Nay, throw you (first)!" Then behold, their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast. (66) So Musa (Moses) conceived a fear in himself. (67) We said: fear not! verily thou! thou shalt be the superior. (68) "And throw that which is in your right hand! It will swallow up that which they have made. That which they have made is only a magician's trick, and the magician will never be successful, no matter whatever amount (of skill) he may attain." (69) The magicians bowed down in prostration saying, "We believe in the Lord of Moses and Aaron". (70) (Firon) said: You believe in him before I give you leave; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you enchantment, therefore I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will certainly crucify you on the trunks of the palm trees, and certainly you will come to know which of us is the more severe and the more abiding in chastising. (71) They replied: "We cannot choose you in the face of the clear testimony we have received, and over Him who created us. So do what you are determined to do. All that you would do will only be confined to our life on earth. (72) We believe in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and also forgive us the practice of magic to which you had compelled us. Allah is the Best and He alone will abide." (73) Whosoever comes unto his Lord a sinner, for him awaits Gehenna wherein he shall neither die nor live. (74) But for whosoever comes before Him as a believer and having done good works there awaits the most highest degree; (75) Gardens of Eden with rippling streams, where he will live for ever. This is the recompense of those who achieve integrity. (76)
