۞ Thereof We created you, and thereunto We return you, and therefrom We shall bring you forth once again. (55) And truly We showed him Our signs, all of them, but he rejected and refused. (56) He said, “Have you come to us in order to expel us from our land by your magic, O Moosa?” (57) We shall confront you with a sorcery like your own. So appoint a day when both of us might meet face to face in an open space; an appointment which neither we nor you shall fail to keep." (58) Musa said: your appointment is the gala day, and that the people be gathered in the forenoon. (59) Pharaoh then withdrew, and gathered his guile. Thereafter he came again, (60) Moses said to them: "Woe betide you. Do not fabricate a lie against God, or He will destroy you with some affliction. For he who fabricates lies is doomed to failure." (61) They started arguing and whispering to each other (62) They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way. (63) So muster all your stratagem and come forth in a row. Whoever prevails today shall triumph." (64) They said to Moses: 'Will you throw down or shall we be the first? (65) Moses said, "You throw first." When they did, their ropes and staffs through their magic seemed to be moving. (66) So Musa conceived in his mind a fear. (67) We told him, "Do not be afraid for you will be the winner. (68) "Throw that which is in thy right hand: Quickly will it swallow up that which they have faked what they have faked is but a magician's trick: and the magician thrives not, (no matter) where he goes." (69) [And so it happened and down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves in adoration, [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" (70) [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "Believe you in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission? Verily! He is your chief who taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you on the trunks of date-palms, and you shall surely know which of us [I (Fir'aun - Pharaoh) or the Lord of Musa (Moses) (Allah)] can give the severe and more lasting torment." (71) Their reply was: 'We will not prefer you over the clear signs that have come to us, nor over Him who has created us. So decide upon whatever you decide, you can only decide upon things in this present life. (72) We believe in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and also forgive us the practice of magic to which you had compelled us. Allah is the Best and He alone will abide." (73) Whosoever comes unto his Lord a sinner, for him awaits Gehenna wherein he shall neither die nor live. (74) And whoever comes to Him a believer (and) he has done good deeds indeed, these it is who shall have the high ranks, (75) The gardens of perpetuity, beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein; and this is the reward of him who has purified himself.
