AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Mary. Lo! She withdrew from her family to an eastern place (16) So she took a veil (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our spirit, and there appeared to her a well-made man. (17) She said: I verily seek refuge with the Compassionate from thee if thou art God-fearing. (18) He said, "I am the Messengers of your Lord. I have come to give you a purified son". (19) She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?" (20) He said, "This is true but your Lord says, "It is very easy for Me. We have decided to give you a son as evidence (of Our existence) for human beings and a mercy from Us. This is a decree already ordained." (21) ۞ And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place. (22) And when the birthpangs came upon her by the trunk of a palmtree, she said: 'Oh, would that I had died before this and become a thing forgotten' (23) But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee; (24) “And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you ripe fresh dates will fall upon you.” (This was a miracle the date palm was dry and it was winter season.) (25) Eat, then, and drink, and let thine eye be gladdened! And if thou shouldst see any human being, convey this unto him: 'Behold, abstinence from speech have I vowed unto the Most Gracious; hence, I may not speak today to any mortal. (26) She took him to her people and they said, "Mary, this is indeed an strange thing. (27) O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot. (28) Mary pointed to the child then; but they said, 'How shall we speak to one who is still in the cradle, a little child?' (29) He Said: verily I am a bondman of Allah; He hath vouchsafed me the Book and made me a prophet. (30) “And He has made me blessed wherever I be; and ordained upon me prayer and charity, as long as I live.” (31) And duteous unto my mother, and hath not made me high-handed, unblest. (32) Peace be upon me the day I was born and the day I will die, and the day I will be raised up alive." (33) Such is Isa, son of Marium; (this is) the saying of truth about which they dispute. (34) It befits not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allah, by saying that 'Iesa (Jesus) is the son of Allah]. Glorified (and Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, "Be!" and it is. (35) Surely God is my Lord, and your Lord; So serve you Him. This is a straight path. (36) But the parties have fallen into variance among themselves, then woe to those who disbelieve for the scene of a Dreadful Day. (37) How keenly would they hear and see when they come before Us then, even though today the evil-doers are lost in palpable error. (38) And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will have been decided; and they are in neglect, and they do not accept faith. (39) Verily! We will inherit the earth and whatsoever is thereon. And to Us they all shall be returned, (40)
