And mention in the Book Mary when she withdrew from her people to an eastern place, (16) And took cover from them, We sent a spirit of Ours to her who appeared before her in the concrete form of a man. (17) "I seek refuge in the Merciful from you, if you fear Him," she said. (18) 'I am the Messenger of your Lord' he replied, 'and have come to give you a pure boy' (19) She said: in what wise shall there be a boy unto me, whereas not a human being hath touched me, nor have I been a harlot? (20) He said, "This is true but your Lord says, "It is very easy for Me. We have decided to give you a son as evidence (of Our existence) for human beings and a mercy from Us. This is a decree already ordained." (21) ۞ and in time she conceived him, and then she withdrew with him to a far-off place. (22) Then the birth-pangs drave her to the trunk of a palm-tree; she said: would that I had died afore this and become forgotten, lost in oblivion! (23) Then (the child) called out to her from beneath her: Grieve not, surely your Lord has made a stream to flow beneath you; (24) and if you shake the trunk of this palm-tree, it will drop fresh ripe dates on you. (25) "So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye. And if thou dost see any man, say, 'I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious, and this day will I enter into not talk with any human being'" (26) Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. (27) O sister of Haroun! your father was not a bad man, nor, was your mother an unchaste woman. (28) Thereupon she pointed towards the child; they said, “How can we speak to an infant who is in the cradle?” (29) He said: Surely I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet; (30) "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salat (prayer), and Zakat, as long as I live." (31) and has made me dutiful to my mother. He has not made me oppressive, nor bereft of God's blessings. (32) I was born with peace and I shall die and be brought to life again with peace." (33) SUCH WAS, in the words of truth, Jesus the son of Mary, about whose nature they so deeply disagree. (34) It is not for God to take a son unto Him. Glory be to Him! When He decrees a thing, He but says to it 'Be,' and it is. (35) God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him alone. That is the right path. (36) But the parties have fallen into variance among themselves, then woe to those who disbelieve for the scene of a Dreadful Day. (37) How well they will hear and see on the Day when they come before Us! The evildoers are today in clear error. (38) Warn thou them of the day of anguish, when the matter shall be determined, and they yet heedless and unbelieving. (39) It is We who will inherit the earth and all who dwell upon it: they shall all return to Us. (40)
