Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) (1) A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. (2) When he called to his Lord inwardly, (3) "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: (4) And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir (5) to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." (6) “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” (7) He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" (8) He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" (9) He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” (10) Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. (11) “O Yahya hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) (12) And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. (13) honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. (14) And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. (15)
