I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, (5) Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. (6) "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." (7) [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" (8) He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." (9) He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. (10) Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night.
