In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. (1) A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, (2) When he called to his Lord inwardly, (3) He submitted, “O my Lord my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” (4) And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir (5) “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) (6) "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." (7) He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? (8) He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” (9) He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." (10) Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" (11) (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, (12) And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. (13) And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. (14) 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' (15)
