In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) (1) This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah (2) When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, (3) "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: (4) I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son (5) Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). (6) “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” (7) He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". (8) He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." (9) He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." (10) Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. (11) “O Yahya hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) (12) And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), (13) And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. (14) Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. (15)
