In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. (1) This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. (2) When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, (3) "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: (4) "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor (5) Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. (6) 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' (7) "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" (8) He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” (9) He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. (10) Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. (11) (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, (12) and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious (13) and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. (14) Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. (15)
