In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. (1) AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: (2) When he quietly called his Lord (3) He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. (4) And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. (5) Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). (6) "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." (7) He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" (8) He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." (9) He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. (10) Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. (11) [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, (12) as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us (13) And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. (14) Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. (15)
