Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. (1) This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. (2) when he called upon his Lord in secret, (3) He submitted, “O my Lord my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” (4) "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- (5) to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." (6) [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." (7) He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." (8) He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" (9) Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." (10) So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. (11) [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, (12) And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. (13) and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. (14) And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. (15)
