In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. (1) This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, (2) when he called upon his Lord secretly (3) And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. (4) I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son (5) Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! (6) 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' (7) 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' (8) He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." (9) Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." (10) Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. (11) (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, (12) And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah (13) and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. (14) And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. (15)
