Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. (1) The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; (2) when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, (3) He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. (4) "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor (5) Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! (6) (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." (7) 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' (8) He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. (9) He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. (10) Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. (11) “O Yahya hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) (12) as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us (13) and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. (14) And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. (15)
