98 verses, revealed in Mecca after Initiator (Faater) before T H (Taa Haa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, (2) When he quietly called his Lord (3) He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: (4) I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son (5) Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. (6) 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' (7) He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' (8) (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' (9) [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." (10) Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. (11) [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, (12) And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah (13) and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. (14) And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life (15)
