Mary (Maryam)
98 verses, revealed in Mecca after Initiator (Faater) before T H (Taa Haa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. (1) A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. (2) When he quietly called his Lord (3) He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: (4) And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. (5) "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". (6) "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." (7) He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" (8) Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". (9) He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” (10) Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" (11) (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, (12) And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, (13) And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. (14) So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. (15)
