In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
