In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. (1) [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah (2) when he called upon his Lord in secret, (3) And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. (4) “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” (5) who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". (6) O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. (7) He submitted, “My Lord how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” (8) He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." (9) He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." (10) Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. (11) (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, (12) and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; (13) and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. (14) Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. (15)
