Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. (1) (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). (2) when he cried to his Lord in secret. (3) He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. (4) But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You (5) "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" (6) We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." (7) He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' (8) He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" (9) He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." (10) Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. (11) (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child (12) and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; (13) And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. (14) And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. (15)
