Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. (1) (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). (2) When he quietly called his Lord (3) saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. (4) But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You (5) who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' (6) (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." (7) He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" (8) Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". (9) He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." (10) Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. (11) (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, (12) And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, (13) And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. (14) And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. (15)
