So they twain set out till, when they were in the ship, he made a hole therein. (Moses) said: Hast thou made a hole therein to drown the folk thereof? Thou verily hast done a dreadful thing. (71) He said, "Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?" (72) [Musa (Moses)] said: "Call me not to account for what I forgot, and be not hard upon me for my affair (with you)." (73) So they travelled on. Then they met a young boy and the man killed him. Moses said, "Have you slain an innocent person without his having slain anyone? Indeed, you have done a terrible thing!" (74) ۞ [Al-Khidh r] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?" (75) Moses replied, "If I ever ask you about anything after this, do not let me accompany you. I will have given you sufficient excuse." (76) Then they proceeded: until, when they came to the inhabitants of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused them hospitality. They found there a wall on the point of falling down, but he set it up straight. (Moses) said: "If thou hadst wished, surely thou couldst have exacted some recompense for it!" (77) "This is the parting of our "ways," he said. "But I will now explain the things you could not bear: (78) "As for that boat, it belonged to some needy people who toiled upon the sea - and I desired to damage it because [I knew that] behind them was a king who is wont to seize every boat by brute force. (79) As for the lad, his parents were believers; and we were afraid he would impose on them insolence and unbelief; (80) So we intended that their Lord should change for the twain one better than he in piety and closer in affection. (81) And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was a righteous man; so your Lord desired that they should attain their maturity and take out their treasure, a mercy from your Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the significance of that with which you could not have patience. (82)
