The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; (1) so that he could warn them of His stern retribution, give the glad news of the best and everlasting reward to the righteously striving believers, (2) therein to abide for ever, (3) And that it may warn those who say: God hath taken a son. (4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. (5) Yet perchance, if they believe not in this tiding, thou wilt consume thyself, following after them, of grief. (6) Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Or dost thou think the Men of the Cave and Er-Rakeem were among Our signs a wonder? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) Then We raised them up (from their sleep), that We might test which of the two parties was best at calculating the time period that they had tarried. (12)
