The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
All praise unto Allah who hath sent down unto His bondman the Book, and hath not placed therein any crookedness. (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) wherein they shall remain forever, (3) And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, (4) They do not have any knowledge of it nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. (5) Perhaps, you, would kill yourself (O Muhammad SAW) in grief, over their footsteps (for their turning away from you), because they believe not in this narration (the Quran). (6) That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," (10) We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) (11) Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. (12)
