The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, (1) Immutable, so that it may warn of a severe punishment from Him; and give happy tidings to those who believe and do the right that there is a better reward (of Paradise) for them, (2) In which they will remain forever (3) Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "Allah hath begotten a son": (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) Perhaps you may destroy yourself with grief if they do not believe in this message. (6) We have adorned the earth with attractive things, so that We may test mankind as to which one is best in conduct, (7) For We shall certainly turn it to barren dust. (8) Do you think that the people of the Cave and the Inscription (the news or the names of the people of the Cave) were a wonder among Our Signs? (9) Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" (10) We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years (11) Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. (12)
