The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has sent down to His slave (Muhammad SAW) the Book (the Quran), and has not placed therein any crookedness. (1) so that he could warn them of His stern retribution, give the glad news of the best and everlasting reward to the righteously striving believers, (2) [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) Surely We have made all that is on the earth an embellishment for it in order to test people as to who of them is better in conduct. (7) Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). (8) Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? (9) [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." (10) We sealed their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. (12)
