The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
(All) praise is due to Allah, Who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make in it any crookedness. (1) (But hath made it) straight, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to bring unto the believers who do good works the news that theirs will be a fair reward, (2) Where they will abide for ever; (3) Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "Allah hath begotten a son": (4) Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie. (5) Then maybe you will kill yourself with grief, sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this announcement. (6) That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign? (9) When those youths sought refuge in the Cave and said: "Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Yourself and provide for us rectitude in our affairs." (10) We sealed their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. (12)
