The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, (1) [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) They do not have any knowledge of it nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. (5) Then maybe you will kill yourself with grief, sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this announcement. (6) Verily We have made whatsoever is on the earth as an adornment thereof, that We may prove them - which of them is best in work. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? (9) Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" (10) We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) (11) Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. (12)
