The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) Wherein they will abide for ever; (3) And to warn those who say, "God has taken to Himself a son." (4) They do not have any knowledge of it nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) Surely We have made all that is on the earth an embellishment for it in order to test people as to who of them is better in conduct. (7) In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. (8) [AND SINCE the life of this world is but a test, dost thou [really] think that [the parable of] the Men of the Cave and of [their devotion to] the scriptures could be deemed more wondrous than any [other] of Our messages? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. (12)
