The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, (1) so that he could warn them of His stern retribution, give the glad news of the best and everlasting reward to the righteously striving believers, (2) They will abide therein for ever. (3) And to warn those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, "Allah has begotten a son (or offspring or children)." (4) Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie. (5) (O Muhammad), if they do not believe in this Message, you will perhaps torment yourself to death with grief, sorrowing over them. (6) Behold, We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, [showing] which of them are best in conduct; (7) And most surely We will make what is on it bare ground without herbage. (8) Or, do you think that the Fellows of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful signs? (9) When the youth sought refuge in the cave they prayed "Lord, grant us mercy and help us to get out of this trouble in a righteous way". (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. (12)
