The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity (1) and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, (2) Wherein they shall remain for ever: (3) and to warn those who say, 'God has taken to Himself a son'; (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. (7) We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. (8) Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign? (9) When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) And afterward We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties would best calculate the time that they had tarried. (12)
