The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness: (1) Immutable, so that it may warn of a severe punishment from Him; and give happy tidings to those who believe and do the right that there is a better reward (of Paradise) for them, (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! (5) Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message. (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. (7) Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). (8) Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? (9) [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." (10) We sealed off their ears in the cave for a number of years, (11) Then We raised them up (from their sleep), that We might test which of the two parties was best at calculating the time period that they had tarried. (12)
