The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
All praise unto Allah who hath sent down unto His bondman the Book, and hath not placed therein any crookedness. (1) (But hath made it) straight, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to bring unto the believers who do good works the news that theirs will be a fair reward, (2) In which they will abide forever. (3) and to warn those who say, 'God has taken to Himself a son'; (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) (O Muhammad), if they do not believe in this Message, you will perhaps torment yourself to death with grief, sorrowing over them. (6) That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct. (7) but We shall reduce all this to barren waste. (8) Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? (9) [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." (10) Wherefore We put a covering over their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. (12)
