The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
(All) praise is due to Allah, Who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make in it any crookedness. (1) (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) Perhaps you will destroy yourself out of grief because they disbelieve this Book. (6) We have caused earthly things to seem attractive so that We can see who will excel in good deeds. (7) And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. (8) [AND SINCE the life of this world is but a test, dost thou [really] think that [the parable of] the Men of the Cave and of [their devotion to] the scriptures could be deemed more wondrous than any [other] of Our messages? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. (12)
