The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ALL PRAISE BE to God who has revealed to His votary the Book which is free of all obliquity, (1) and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) And to warn those who say “Allah has chosen a child.” (4) They have no knowledge of this, nor did their forefathers have any either. What they say is monstrous: they are merely uttering falsehoods! (5) Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps. (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. (7) Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" (10) We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years (11) Thereafter We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best at reckoning the time that they had tarried. (12)
