The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness: (1) [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward (2) They will abide therein for ever. (3) And that it may warn those who say: "God has begotten a son." (4) they have no knowledge of it, they nor their fathers; a monstrous word it is, issuing out of their mouths; they say nothing but a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) Lo! We have placed all that is on the earth as an ornament thereof that We may try them: which of them is best in conduct. (7) but We shall reduce all this to barren waste. (8) Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? (9) When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) We then awakened them to see which of the two groups more accurately tells the period they had stayed. (12)
