The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise belongs to God who has sent down upon His servant the Book and has not assigned unto it any crookedness; (1) [He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward (2) They will abide therein for ever. (3) and also to warn those who say: "Allah has taken to Himself a son," (4) No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! (5) Then maybe you will kill yourself with grief, sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this announcement. (6) Surely We have made all that is on the earth an embellishment for it in order to test people as to who of them is better in conduct. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? (9) When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" (10) So We prevented them from hearing in the cave for a number of years. (11) And afterward We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties would best calculate the time that they had tarried. (12)
