The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; (1) (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). (2) Wherein they will abide for ever; (3) Furthermore, [this divine writ is meant] to warn all those who assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son." (4) a thing about which they have no knowledge, neither they nor their ancestors. Dreadful is the word that comes out of their mouths. What they utter is merely a lie. (5) Perhaps you may destroy yourself with grief if they do not believe in this message. (6) Behold, We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, [showing] which of them are best in conduct; (7) and, verily, [in time] We shall reduce all that is on it to barren dust! (8) Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? (9) When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" (10) Wherefore We put a covering over their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) Then We raised them up (from their sleep), that We might test which of the two parties was best at calculating the time period that they had tarried. (12)
